Meet Joaquin. 🌍He travelled all the way from Ecuador to volunteer at one of our UK outdoor camps, and honestly? He's having the time of his life.Kayaking at golden hour on the river. Scaling climbing walls mid-thumbs-up. Hauling logs up into the trees. Campfire nights under the stars. This is what a gap year actually looks like.Joaquin spends his days helping deliver adventure education to young people through activities like high ropes, canoeing, hiking, archery and climbing, as part of a network of camps run by Scouts, Guides and YMCA. But it's not just the activities that have made it special.In his own words:"I've made a lot of good friends and had amazing life experiences from doing the one thing I love the most, which is being in the outdoors. Archery. Sunsets. A year that changed everything. Sebastian, we are so glad you went. 🏹🌅Sebastian volunteered at Totara Springs in New Zealand through our partners @via_ev, working as an outdoor instructor alongside qualified staff to run activities for groups of students. Archery, rock climbing, abseiling, high ropes, raft building, canoeing, hiking. You name it, he did it.And here is what he had to say about it:"I would never have thought of how much you can learn in one year. You will get to know so many skills but also so many people and it is just an amazing experience and time which really helps you to find direction in life."Five stars. From Australia to Poland in one week. Stephanie is already living her best gap year life. 🌿Last week Beata, our Poland Programme Manager, met Stephanie at the airport. This week she is standing in front of a classroom full of Polish students, sharing Australian snacks she brought from home, teaching them about outback wildlife, and walking them through the history of a country most of them have probably never thought much about.One week in. Already thriving.She is settling beautifully into her host family, falling in love with Poland in spring, and doing exactly what our School Language Volunteers do best: showing up, connecting, and making it count.No experience needed. New Ventures Worldwide Director James recently headed out to Argentina to visit our incredible Programme Manager Mili and the brilliant volunteers currently on placement at schools there. And yes, lunch was very much on the agenda! 🍽️James had this to say:💬 "Argentina has blown me away. The culture is vibrant and warm, the placements are wonderfully welcoming, and the volunteers are doing a truly outstanding job. Seeing them in action, connecting with their students and bringing English to life in the classroom, is exactly why we do what we do. Mili's passion and dedication to making every placement a success really shines through. 🌍✨ Meet Maria, currently volunteering at a school in Spain with New Ventures Worldwide, and she is absolutely loving every moment of it!Maria is supporting Spanish students with their English language skills, planning lessons for three different year groups each week and bringing them to life through fun, engaging activities. And if that wasn't enough, she's even been given materials to start learning German herself! In her own words:💬 "Everything has been amazing. I'm gaining a wealth of experience in teaching while diving deeply into English and Spanish grammar. Each week, I plan classes for three different year groups, teaching Spanish through a variety of engaging activities. Both the staff and pupils are friendly and welcoming, which has made blending in so much easier. 🌍 Meet Oualid! Currently on placement at an outdoor activity camp here in the UK, and he's absolutely loving it!From kayaking on the river to conquering high ropes towers, Oualid is gaining hands-on experience in a role that's as exciting as it sounds. In his own words:💬 "I'm really enjoying my time here in the UK and everything is going very well. I've gained a lot of experience and at the moment I'm doing training in water activities like kayaking. It's been a great experience so far."Our outdoor camp placements are operated by Scouts, Guides, and YMCA, supporting education programmes for young people through activities like archery, climbing, canoeing, sailing, and more.
